rapist hanged ,the city mourns - what the hell

on 4:30 AM , 14th August Dhananjay Chattopadhay was hanged as per the court’s orders . The whole city of Kolkata , not only mourned his death … but people who never knew him went to wathc his body being cremated although his own family didn’t want to be any part of the same. The local and also some national newspapers filed up their cover pages with Dhananjay’s daily itenary, his latest habits , what he said , what he ate , how he crapped and god knows what . DHANANJAY CHATTERJEE WAS ORDERDED BY THE COURT TO BE HANGED TIIL DEATH ON THE CHARGE OF RAPING and KILLING a SCHOOLGIRL NAMED HETAL PAREKH.
WHat is the world coming to ? Dhananjay’s case have been on the hold and delayed for over past 10 yars , i believe. All this time he has managed to plea , appeal and turn of several court’s order / judgement and lately his clemency plea got cancelled by the President Abdul Kalam . Yet , people are still mourning his death and weirdly bypassing the fact that he is a Rapist and murderer !! The girl he murdered - i am not sure , but from the public opinions and newspaper reports and votes , one would think she was the devil getting dhananjay to murder her :p … even if that had happened , why are people firgetting that a rape and murder is still a rape and murder … Today in the morning newspaper i read the excecututioner who hanged dhananjay had said ” please forgive me , god knows what jobs our govrernment makes us do ” .
I am definitely not against death penalty , as may be clear from my postings above , and especially in this case i see no reason .. i do feel quite strongly such criminals are better excecuted . However , all i can say against this hanging is … the excecution method can be changed , maybe …. i mean hanging is definitely not a humane way to go , neither it is the best last memory for a person’s relatives .
But still i am shocked the amount that is less said about the victim of the crime … and extra nuisance that the media created in favour of the criminal
