optimising for yahoo search engine

August 26th, 2004

For the past hour i have been now reading about optimising for the yahoo search engine. Although much optimisation tactics are simmilar to that of Google , there is a definite difference. While Google places much importance on link popularity , title and link anchor text, like Domain Registration India or web hosting india …. Yahoo’s algorithm seems to be based simply on Content and more content.
Now this should not be taken word by word … meaning Yahoo definitely gives importance to Link Popularity and so does Google like sites having proper content . In the process of my readin on various sites , i found out some of these points :

  • h1 tags supply solid value in the Yahoo! SERPs too. Since the tags are part of your site’s on page content, they score high points with the Yahoo! algorithm.
  • Bolded text appears to be a moderately important part of the Yahoo! algorithm.
  • Yahoo! algorithm places importance on internal links and site maps as well.
  • meta tags carry some impact in the Yahoo! search placements. Be sure that you use only the most important keywords and only for keywords found on the page itself. Limit your meta tags to a maximum of five or six to a page, listing them from most to least important.
