my friend’s wedding

April 17th, 2005

today was Ali’s ( anisur) wedding. It was a whole day affair and all of us friends went to attend it in grand style . Starting the day was the meeting in gariahat for the bus to arrive. I was the first to reach in front of Anandamela , soon joined by Monty and Subhankar. By the time we were thinking of calling Amma , Krishanu arrived. Around 10:15 all of us , including Arijit and Rakesh was waiting for the bus and cursing the main party for being so late.
We set off soon after that and it was a HOT HOT day . Despite our requests for a A.C bus, we had to go in the normal 56 seater. But it was fun. During day time , it had to be hot . but what was surprising and quite brave in a way , Ali was wearing his full wedding attire - sherwani, the turban/ headgear and the jahar coat. On our way we had some breakfast and even after arriving there we had a small pre-lunch session.
We arrived at Burdwan after 1:00 pm and were greeted by the folks from Ali’s sasural . They were good people and we had a grand feast there - custom wise we had to eat along with Ali almost on the same plate . We however didn’t have biriyani , not sure why it was not in the menu. At there , i also saw a Muslim wedding for the first time . But the ceremony didn’t last long . so by 5:00 we were almost done .
On the way back in the bus , i actually met Nargis , Ali’s wife for the first time and chatted with them for some time. She seemed ok , and of course quite exhausted by the days events.
In the bus, on our way to Burdwan , i also met Suman . She has grown - that is for sure . For some reason or the other, we hardly ever chatted. Hopefully i will get to chat to her on the reception day.
