The Wedding Singer

October 28th, 2005

After creating the newsletter, I was actually thinking that maybe i wont write a DVD Blog ?tonite . But the movie i saw somehow make me feel , thats a movie i should write about . Because seeing it only made me feel ,

these things only happen in movies / films , i guess :(

The Wedding SingerThe Wedding Singer is the movie i saw tonite . When i actually started seeing it, I was laughing in the begining as the movie had its funny moments . But even while watching the funny moments , to be quite frank I wasl almost predetermined to rate this movie as average or even below average . But the movie was building up …. slowly . Its about a guy ( Adam Sandler ) who works as a mere wedding singer , earning $60 a gig , who gets dumped on his wedding altar ! But just prior to that he meets a girl ( Drew Barrymore ) in on of the gigs who is a simple person like him . As the hero of the movie , Robbie ( Adam) completes the speech for the Best Man , helps kids stay out of trouble while Julia ( Drew ) agrees to dance with the fat kid who is unhappy and doesn’t demean herself just to get a better job. They both are perfect for each other , as everyone else understands but circumstances keeps them apart even when they try to proffess to each other.
The movie realy kicks off almost in the second half and slowly becomes too adorable to not like and reaches its climax in a aeroplane journey with both Robbie and Julia on board unknown to each other . Robbie ( Adam ) having the support of Billy Idol sings the lovely song ( Growing Old With You) to woo over his lady love . And after seeing the fantastic ending , i just kept on thinking … no doubt good things happen to good people , but still THIS kind of things only happen in the movies …

I wanna make you smile whenever you’re sad
Carry you around when your arthritis is bad
All I wanna do is grow old with you

I’ll get your medicine when your tummy aches
Build you a fire if the furnace breaks
Oh it could be so nice, growing old with you

I’ll miss you
I’ll kiss you
Give you my coat when you are cold

I’ll need you
I’ll feed you
Even let ya hold the remote control

So let me do the dishes in our kitchen sink
Put you to bed if you’ve had too much to drink
I could be the man who grows old with you
I wanna grow old with you

What you have written almost reads like a movie review and made interesting reading especially the afterthoughts. Hope that you follow up with something on Bollywood too-only to deserving films.
