Award functions

Tonight i was watching the Star Screen Hero Honda Awards on Star Plus and to ber frank , i am no longer sure if I actually enjoyed it . It was bollywood masala at its fullest. The bollywood masala that you will usually see on TV is however quite different from the bollywood masala on theatres or film magazines.

What i didnt like that much : The bollywood industry is being either pretty liberal in embracing television actors or they are simply being arm twisted by the Television channel supremos . In this particular Awards ceremony i saw several TV personalities being ushered , promoted and very surely thrown in the face …. in the early days a Awards ceremony on tv would have meant Johnny Lever giving the jokes and one liners in the intermission or maybe a Shahrukh Saif combo making us lighten up in between the sizzling numbers by the Juhi’s and Kareena’s . This show however saw the Finalists of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge like Raju Srivastava , Sunil Pal being not just used as the comic relief but more or less allowed to give a screen test of sorts in front of the biggies of Bollywood / Indian Cinema like Subhash Ghai and Yash Chopra . And that was just the begining . Later on we also got to see Sajid Khan being a part compere ( however crass his class of comedy has become ) trying to do a Ajit ( was it ? ) act and later on a Mega Dance by 4 sirens of Indian Television , namely - Shweta Tiwari , Juhi Parmar, Shilpa Saklani sizzling with Zayed Khan . Raju Srivastava was good , i do delcare .. his act was quite believable and his 5 minute rapid fire on the Politicians and the Mumbai rain was definitely laughable , but he was still trying too much at times , which i think Diya had to forcibly sometimes put a lid on . But Sunil Pal in my opinion was a embarassment , considerign he was once the winner … he still had to fall back on his age old Sunil Shetty and Irfan Khan caricature - not worth it. The less that can be said about Sajid Khan , the better .

What was Typical about Bolly Stars on TV : Every one respecting every one , bending down to kiss the feet or at times the podium , people even rememring some “great moments or humanitarian moments” . Black - the movie took away nearly all the awards , so a typical dialogue , repeated by almost most of its award winners were ” Thank you for recognizing Black ” . :p , Rani , Bansali, Black Producer among the ones repeatign it. Earlier i had seen most awardees mentioning their Technicians , DIrectors , MOthers Fathers , GOD , probaby even their Godfathers ( in the industry ) , but this year the latest trend was thanking their In Laws …. as if we were not enough bored by the leeeenghty list of people awardeees thanks while recieving the trophy , kajol continued this new tradition of praising in laws even when she was not a awardee

Somethign was seriously wrong with the people who designed the concept for todays show …  in order to usher the songs in in between the awards , often the writers create hatke sequences just to bring out the keyword from which the song would originate , but this time the scenerios that were being made were surely too “hatke” for me . The actors were scandalising their own films and just blaberring dialogues and jumping around in a way that made no sense .
