rang de basanti review

rang de basanti movie review :
rang de basanti is a amir khan movie , it also is a patriotic movie, released just on the eve of indian republic day. What else does it need to make a movie hit ?
Well , definitely not too much hamming on a single idea . Anyone should know little of something is always good , too much of it …. not necessarily . The movie first half in my opinion was the good part - why , because it was more on the characters , the actual patriotism. Often , i feel that directors do not put in their own inputs or their own ideas , which makes the story just a naration. Here in , the director probably tried too hard or put too much belief in his own idea of what could have been.
The movie itself is comprised of 2 plots - one which was about the life of 5 youngsters , how that was changed by the devotion of a foreigner and her attempts to ensure the story of bhagat singh , Azad etc were told though her documentary . In the seocnd plot of the movie, which materialised in the 2nd half with the death of Raghavan , playing the role of soha ali Khan’s Fiance and a unfortunate victim of the ill fated Mig 21 fiascos. Amir and his gang by now heated up by their performance practise decide to take a strong stance against the corruption of the current day government and go to extreme measures.
Likeable moments in the movie : amir’s dialects , every time he picks up something new and makes the characters entirely likeable ; soha ali khan finally getting a ample role , and doing somewhat ok justice to it ;
Unlikeable moments in the film : a good part of the second half , especially towards the climax , killing of a defence Minister in PreIndependence style etc .

I Disagree,
I believe the movie is atypical of a regular Bollywood movie…
A really good ending - the killing of the Defense Minister pre-independence style was a bit overboard, but then the whole movie was focused on taking decisions and doing something about it…
Like the movie says - “Its easy to crib, but difficult to do something”
“Apne hi ghar mein haath koi kyun gande kare?” - or something similar…
But overall, It was a very refreshing change from the monotonous song and dance routine…and the same old good wins over evil…

I did like the movie as till the death of Ajay Rathore. But then it was sloppy. The capturing of AIR Building was shown without any credence. Also the killing of the youth by the police while they were on-air does not really show credence.

OK movie if you compare it to the crap we are subjected to now-a-days. Didn’t get the satisfaction you get after watching a really good movie. Came home and watched Gladiator. That’s what you call a satisfying movie.

Sunil’s right, its a very neat movie, the director deserves full credit for his work but I think he got a bit carried away towards the end.The climax looks forced,as if the protagonists had to be killed in any way possible and the attack by the Rapid action Force was completely illogical

hey ! rdb is a awesome commercial bollywood movie i have seen till date. It makes one sit and think even after the movie has ended. as in i and my friends were sitting for a min.after the movie got over. and i can also very well relate to it coz of the delhi university scenario and the love for the campus.i would rate it as 10/10. hope to see more movies like these in the future too.
other drawback which i see is the impact of media and cinema in our lives. its affects us so much so which it should not. but when its already affecting us(media) then let it affect us in a positive manner. so hope these movies affect us and we can see a transformed society.

Normally I donot see Hindi movies since I donot like the stock song and dance sequences that flood them. However, since Rang De Basanti was reviewed highly, I went to see the movie yesterday and to say the least I was just horrified and confused how any Indian could produce such a movie. I list below the several reasons why I felt so bad.
1. The producers have depicted a long drawnout brutal attack by the Rapid Action Force, meant for use against Terrorist, to disperse a group of peaceful mourners assembled at, of all the places, Amar Jyoti Jawan memorial and juxtaposed
the same against glimpses of the notorious firing by the British Forces on the peaceful assembly at Jallianwala Baug thereby depicting that our Governments are no better if not worse then British rulers. Has the R.A.F. ever been so utilised?
2. The attack by forces on Akashvani Bhawan occupied by the protesters is also shown to be equally brutal, shooting down persons who have raised their hands in surrender. No warning, call to surrender or dialogue!!! And the inferance can only be as above.
3. From the way our youth have been depicted, the only inferance can be that they are without any patriotic fealings, nor have any knowledge of our freedom struggleor its heroes, or the brains capable of thinking properly and needed a foreigner to tell them about our heroes and induce a little bit of sense in them. How could any person with a little sense hold the Defense Minister responsible for the crash of MIG 21s or for keep them flying? Those responsible for this can only be the top brass of Air Force. The defense minister can only articulate the information conveyed to him by the Air Force.. Does it make any sense to hold him responsible and shoot him down for this? And why does Karan shoot his father- for assuring him that he will protect Karan somehow? Which father does not try to protect his son?
4. Someone says “Usko Mardalo” and without any further thought they take to violence and kill the person. The only inferance can be resort to ‘violence” as a solution.
There are many inconsistancies, thoughtless and foolish depictions and it appears that the producer/director were as confused as the youth of the picture while producing/directing the movie. How at all it was cleared by the censor board, the Government and the Air Force., I fail to understand.

i agree that the movie has got some foolish dipictions..The climax is really very sad not bcoz all the 5 lead charaters are killed but bcoz the way it is shot…no sense at all…one gets the feeling that the director had some pre-conception towards the characters that they must be killed…but if u dont dig too much about the faults and if u go without much expection then i think u will enjoy the movie…atleast the first half makes u laugh..The songs are very nice…..it leaves us with a good social msg that makes us think atleast for 2 to 5 minutes about our countries reformation.

RDB is the most super hit film I have ever seen in my life.
RDB should be given awards of Story,Actor and Actress,
New Comer Actor and Actress.I think RDB is the best drama film than Parineeta.Aamir and other actor actors have done an excellent job. When I was seeing the movie then I thought that I have entered inside the movie and seeing the actors enacting their role in real. The music is excellent.Masti ki Paathsala and the title song are the best songs of the film.I am waiting for the RDB DVD to come in stores so that I can see the movie again and again without any ticket.I cried when the climax scene in which DJ(Aamir Khan),Karan(Siddharth),Laxman(Atul Kulkarni),Aslam(Kunal Kapoor) and Sukhi(Sharman Joshi) die in the radio station, when Lt.Ajay Rathore(R.Madhavan’s)body is burnt and when all the actors including Waheeda Rehman(R. Madhavan’s mother in the movie) went to the India Gate so that Ajay’s soul rest in peace and were badly beaten by the police were shown on the screen.I liked the scene in which DJ kills the Defence Minister(Mohan Agashe).I liked two dialogues which were said by Aamir Khan. One is the starting dialogue which was”Ab bhi jiska khoon na khaula woh khoon nahin paani hai.Jo desh ke kaam na aaye, woh bekaar jawaani hai.” and the other one is which Aamir said after Siddharth told that he had killed his father(Anupam Kher)on radio which was”Zindagi jeene ke do tarike hote hain.Ek jo hota hai hone do,sab kuch bardaasht karte jao yaah phir zimedaari uthao ushe badalne ki.”I hope Rakeysh uncle will make more super hit mpvies like RDB with the same stars who worked in RDB especially Alice Patten.RDB is the best movie made by Rakeysh uncle than Aks.

RDB was different and new, no doubt a tremendous effort in pushing on the message, ‘as an integral part of the system, change can be brought by none but ourselves’. What i fail to understand is the object of the violence in the film during the latter half of the film. karan in later admits that killing the minister was wrong, and yet had further gone on to kill his own father?
A good attempt but the second half fails to make sense.

some of u people have criticised the movie.
i would want u all to know that the aim of the movie was to make u to think .Pointing out where it went wrong or climax was not good ,too much violence is not what u should be looking at.
its not about,”oh, they have other means to express their disconent and anger”.
look at the bigger picture.it was to make u think and do something.
its about change, change, change.

Dear Aamir,
I would like to appreciate your movies like Lagaan and Rising. But I strongly ‘term’ your movie Rang De Basanti as misleading.
The youth who have drinks standing at forts and drive cars at 120kmh. cant be compared with Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad or Ram Prasad Bismil. R u trying to give an image to the young generation that they should drink and drive and try to kill the defence ministers of India?
If your answer if no, you are trying to do that.
I respect your courage and devotion but u have taken the wrong way I am sorry. I was displeased after seeing the movie, I dont care whether people liked the movie beacuse of its songs or beacuse of sexual attraction but it is a total false concept.

Hi,
to all those who seem to be critical of the way the movie for some of its depictions of reality, I would strongly urge to look at the way police dealt with the peaceful protesters of Jessica Lal murder judgment and also the way police was treating the Narmada protesters who peacefully assembled at Jantar mantar for a cause. Further, I would also ask u to remember that the modes of state operation of violence and indifference are two of the quite serious problems one as a civil society member must educate oneself more about..enjoy
