some day the train would come

March 7th, 2006

Back to the blog after many many days . Writing at 5 in the morning … isn’t that the best time to write :P . I have been suffering from toothaches again , hence this odd time . Tonight i had seen a pretty decent movie called Under the Tuscan Sun , a movie starring Diane Lane . She looks old ( in the first part) , in the movie … well almost everone in the movie is aged , except a young boy and girl .
under the tuscan sun There are quite a interesting quotes / dialogues in the movie , but i will start with one that really speaks about the whole story . Martini: Signora, between Austria and Italy, there is a section of the Alps called the Semmering. It is an impossibly steep, very high part of the mountains. They built a train track over these Alps to connect Vienna and Venice. They built these tracks even before there was a train in existence that could make the trip. They built it because they knew some day, the train would come.  Diane Lane is a Author cum book-critic who takes up her best friend and gay girl-friends ticket on a Gay Tour to Italy , to flee from her miserable life as a divorcee . In Italy , she suddenly becomes extra romantic and in a spur of the moment deciscion buy a Villa in a small town. She laments about buying the house , not having a husband , nor a family and just a dream of having her own beautiful place . The realtor says the above quote early in the movie and points it out almost at the end , how in spite of several mishaps and mis-chances she manages to clinch the dream she once started. She does create her dream house , build up her own family (without actuallymarrying ;) ), even have a joyful marriage in her yard , and last but not the least even find a man for herself .
Once again quoting since it express so beautifully Wells(Director) takes liberal screen time to hypnotize the audience with the Italian magic, soothing the soul with shots of olive-colored flesh, bountiful food, and luscious accents, only to pull away every so often to introduce a reminder of the cruel realities of life. Also much of the movie is just based on relations like a old woman and her memories, a old man and her dead wife, a young couple from 2 different countries, a female author in one of the most romatic countries and such but not a villain or any major deprressing or violent element . Just my kind of movie …. :P As for the first quote , i think many of us can try to believe in it . To dream of something is nothing wrong , maybe you are not even working on achieving it right now , maybe you wont even in another 5 years … but at least you will have a target , an aim , something to look up once in a while , something you always would like to achieve.
