birthday blog 5
October 1st, 2008
What are birthdays ? An year back or so I was rambling about coming of the age of 30 . In another birthday blog , i have put forward my feelings about marriage ( man.. ! ) , one about youthfulness and drinking , and another one about birthday gifts . So is it about rejoicement … expectation …. recounting … growing older …. achievements and personal markers ?
Historically and documentatively it is the single most important day in a man’s life … it is in every paper which says you exist . So it makes sense that you rejoice .
As you move ahead in life , a teen you count the candles of expecting to be of age , to be considered an adult , to be able to not ask for permission , to be someone you like and want . Similarly as you get more older , other peoples start building expectations on your birthdays … when my son would start earning , when my daughetr would get married and so on .
By the time you get older , such as me (currently 31) , you start missing the old birthdays and wishing that you didn’t miss spending some of these days with that special someone.
As you will probably grow even more older , you will start Recounting even more … not just what did not do , but also what you did … and what you will soon no longer be doing . And if you are really adventurous , you will get someone else ( maybe your son or daughter ) to do it .
Somewhere in between all of this , in a birthday we might sit with a glass of whine or whiskey , a cigar or just a laptop and think of achievements ….. for some achievements would be having a great group of friends, a unthinkable salary , a Mercedez Benz , a business that puts you just under Anil Ambani
………………….
But all in all , a birthday is the day you should remember to thank your God ( Bhagwan , Allah , Christ and whatever you believe in etc ) …. the rest are all derivations from it .
